In 2019, the average nominal monthly wage in Uzbekistan came to 2.32 million Soms (about $243), according to data from the country’s State Committee on Statistics. This represents a 27.5% increase on the previous year.
The statistics show significant variation between different sectors of the economy. In some sectors the average salary is considerably below the figure for the economy as a whole – for instance in healthcare (34% lower) and education (20% lower).
In other sectors, in contrast, it is markedly above the national average – for example in construction (almost 19%), industry (42%), communications (70%) and in banking (more than 100%).
Geographically, the highest average salary was found in the capital city Tashkent, followed by the Navoiy and wider Tashkent regions. The lowest averages were in the Surxondaryo, Namangan and Fergana regions.
In 2019, recruitment specialists comparing median salaries across different branches of the Uzbek economy reported that the highest figure was to be found in the tourism and accommodation sector (9.7 million Soms, or around $1,100).
In turn, the State Committee on Statistics established earlier in 2019 that salaries in the banking sector were on average twice those of teachers and doctors, and per capita incomes in Tashkent were around twice as high as the national average.
