Sarvar Ashurov, an aide to the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and head of the government chairman's reception office, has been relieved of his position. This was announced by the press secretary of the cabinet head, Bekzod Khidoyatov, on his Telegram channel.
He added that the vacant post left by Ashurov's resignation has been filled by Shukhrat Ibragimov, who previously served as deputy head of the government Secretariat, following a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Daryo.uz reports that Alijon Ashurov, the brother of the now-former prime minister's aide and a colonel in the State Security Service, was also dismissed. According to media reports, he headed the internal security department of the SGB.
The publication, citing its own sources in the Uzbek government, claims that the reason for these dismissals could be the officials' obstruction of the investigation into the assassination attempt on former presidential press secretary Komil Allamjonov.
It is specified that in this connection, the chairman of the SGB, Abdusalam Azizov, as well as several officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Tashkent City Police Department, also lost their positions.
The assassination attempt on Allamjonov became known on October 26 of this year. The night before, two unknown individuals fired several shots at a moving Range Rover vehicle, then fled in an unknown direction. There were no casualties in the incident. The Prosecutor General's Office opened a case under Articles 25 («Preparation for a crime and attempted crime») and 97 («Intentional murder») of the republic's Criminal Code in connection with the attack on the former official.
Two days later, it was reported that law enforcement officers had detained four men in connection with this incident. Their names were not specified by the supervisory authority.
