Citizens of Uzbekistan working abroad will soon be able to access mortgage loans. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed relevant officials to develop an appropriate system, as announced by the President’s Press Secretary, Sherzod Asadov.
At a January 23 meeting, Mirziyoyev emphasized that an Uzbek resident can obtain a mortgage without official employment, based solely on a declaration of income. Until now, labor migrants were denied such loans because they could not provide documentation of official income earned within Uzbekistan.
Under the proposed system, citizens working abroad who regularly transfer money to Uzbekistan for at least six months will become eligible for mortgages.
Since Shavkat Mirziyoyev assumed office in 2016, Uzbekistan has implemented measures to support citizens working abroad. For instance, those participating in organized labor migration programs are promised partial reimbursement for expenses related to obtaining work visas, taking foreign language and professional qualification exams, as well as travel costs.
By July 1, 2025, Uzbekistan plans to introduce a unified electronic database tracking all individuals leaving and entering the country. Additionally, a mobile application will be developed for migrants, enabling them to access information about overseas job opportunities, communicate with compatriots and assistance organizations, and transfer money.
