Uzbekistan’s Head of Mission to the European Union, Ambassador Gayrat Fozilov, has officially presented his credentials to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the Dunyo news agency reported.

Following the ceremony, von der Leyen praised the outcomes of the Central Asia–European Union summit held in April in Samarkand. She reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan and other Central Asian nations.

The summit focused on global partnerships in green energy, logistics, critical raw materials, and digital transformation. At the event, von der Leyen announced a €12 billion investment package for Central Asian countries under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

Gayrat Fozilov is a career diplomat who previously served as Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister. He was later appointed ambassador to Belgium and the Netherlands, and now leads the country’s mission to the EU and NATO, based in Brussels.

In November of last year, Fozilov also presented his credentials to European Council President Charles Michel.
