Between January and April of this year, law enforcement authorities in Kyrgyzstan recorded 6,536 cases of domestic violence—a 36 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. The figures were published by 24.kg, citing the Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The ministry also released a broader set of statistics. In the first four months of 2025, police issued 4,967 protection orders for victims of domestic violence. Under Article 70 of the Code of Offenses, 1,708 reports were filed, resulting in 538 individuals being sentenced to community service and 824 taken into custody by court order.

In addition, the following criminal investigations have been opened:

✔️ 11 cases under Article 122 (“Murder”) of the Criminal Code;
✔️ 10 cases under Article 130 (“Grievous bodily harm”);
✔️ 7 cases under Article 131 (“Moderate bodily harm”);
✔️ 7 cases under Article 138 (“Torture”).

In total, 165 criminal cases related to domestic violence were launched, including those under other articles of the Criminal Code.

Reports of domestic abuse regularly appear in the Kyrgyz media. For instance, on May 28, a particularly shocking case surfaced from the Kara-Kulja District of Osh Region. According to investigators, a local man murdered his wife—the mother of their five children—after she attended a school reunion. Consumed by jealousy, he allegedly beat her and then fatally shot her. Authorities have opened a murder case, and the 40-year-old suspect has been placed in a temporary detention center.
