Kazakhstan has launched a Center to Combat Disinformation, which will operate under the Central Communications Service of the President, Kazinform reports.
The center’s mandate includes identifying and debunking fake news, providing citizens with accurate and verified information on significant topics, and promoting a culture of responsible information consumption.
Its staff, in collaboration with government agencies, experts, and journalists, will publish regular overviews of disinformation, examples of manipulation, and explanations on high-profile media topics, according to the official announcement.
In recent years, Kazakh authorities have stepped up efforts to counter the spread of disinformation. With support from the Ministry of Information and Social Development, the government launched the website stopfake.kz, which promptly publishes corrections of false or misleading claims.
The country is also home to independent fact-checking initiatives, such as Factcheck.kz—a project of the international journalism center MediaNet. Operating for over seven years, it is the first professional fact-checking platform in Central Asia.
