Next week, Kabul will host the international conference “Attracting Investment and Supporting the Energy Sector,” with representatives from 22 countries expected to participate. The event was announced by Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), reports ToloNews.
Faridullah Sharafmal, head of investment coordination at DABS, stressed the importance of the upcoming forum both for Afghanistan and for domestic and foreign investors. According to him, the conference will present opportunities for developing promising energy projects.
“With this conference, we aim to bring together the potential of national and international investors,” Sharafmal said.
Some experts argue that Afghanistan should prioritize renewable energy sources, particularly solar and hydropower. Such a strategy, combined with streamlined investment procedures, could put the country on the path toward energy independence. At the same time, the launch of new projects and enterprises would create additional jobs.
“If DABS implements its energy plans in a structured and well-managed way, it could play a vital role in improving the sector and strengthening Afghanistan’s economic infrastructure as a whole,” said economist Qutbuddin Yaqubi.
According to media reports, Kabul has identified electricity as one of the population’s most urgent needs. In this regard, the recent signing of contracts between DABS and partners from Uzbekistan is seen as a significant step. Under these agreements, four major projects on electricity transmission and distribution will be implemented.
