Officials in Tashkent reported that 330 approved research projects are being carried out at the Center for Islamic Civilization. The announcement was made at a concluding advisory meeting attended by scholars and staff of the CIC, the organization’s press service said.
It was noted that these 330 projects represent only the priority areas selected for the first stage. In total, the portfolio includes more than 800 projects, developed and presented at local and international conferences.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov, director of the Center for Islamic Civilization and chairman of its academic council, said that during visits to the CIC, the president of Uzbekistan issued a number of instructions that place particular responsibility on the institution’s staff. According to him, the museum’s activities, exhibition design, and architectural concept are shaped by the ideas of the head of state.
“We have concentrated all our efforts on shaping the Center’s exhibition, paying special attention to the theme ‘Civilizations, Personalities, and Discoveries.’ At the same time, we value the work of each of you. The Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan will become a place of spiritual and intellectual education for our youth,” Abdukhalikov said.
The meeting also focused on the launch of a special digital platform that will host research texts, datasets, and media products (videos, visualizations) created for the exhibition. According to the Center, publishing materials in digital format is intended both to expand public access to research results and to enrich the exhibition’s content by linking display objects with source studies, reference tools, and illustrative materials.
The Center for Islamic Civilization is being built next to the Khast-Imam complex. Designed in the style of ancient monuments, the building features four portals, each 34 meters high, and a central dome rising 65 meters. It includes a Quran hall, a 460-seat conference hall, and a museum whose exhibitions will cover the history of Uzbekistan from pre-Islamic times to the present. The CIC is intended to serve as a platform for studying the heritage of the ancestors and reinterpreting it in cooperation with the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and specialized academic and educational centers worldwide.
