Alexei Erkhov has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Uzbekistan. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 5.

The appointment followed a decree relieving Erkhov of his duties as Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, as well as a decree dismissing Oleg Malginov from his post as Russian ambassador to Uzbekistan.

Malginov had served in Tashkent since March 5, 2021. He announced the completion of his mission on June 9 during a reception marking Russia Day.

Alexei Erkhov, 64, graduated from MGIMO in 1983 and has held a number of key posts within Russia’s Foreign Ministry and diplomatic service. He worked at Russian embassies in Morocco, Egypt, and Israel, and in the early 2000s served in the Presidential Administration. From 2003 to 2006, he was minister-counselor at the Russian embassy in Syria.

From 2009 to 2015, Erkhov headed the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul and later led the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Crisis Management. In June 2017, he was appointed ambassador to Turkey by presidential decree. On June 11, 2025, at a reception in Ankara marking Russia Day, Erkhov announced the completion of his mission.
