President Emomali Rahmon has appointed Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda as Tajikistan’s new Minister of Economic Development and Trade. The decree was published on November 14 on the president’s official website.
Zavki Zavkizoda, who previously held the post, has been appointed Tajikistan’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United States. New ambassadors to France, Italy and Austria were also appointed the same day.
With the president’s approval, new general consuls were confirmed for several regions and cities in Russia. For the first time in Tajik diplomatic history, the position has been filled by a woman: Zarina Ismoilzoda, who will head Tajikistan’s consulate in Novosibirsk. Before the appointment, she served as deputy head of the Information and Press Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, was born on November 11, 1988. He is a graduate of the New York Institute (USA, Class of 2010) and Tajik National University (2012), where he earned a master’s degree in global economics. He is currently working on a doctoral dissertation titled “Institutionalization of Tajikistan’s Integration Processes in the International Trading System.”
Abdurahmonzoda’s professional experience includes work in departments overseeing cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO), trade policy, and the consumer market. From 2020 to 2023, he served as Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, after which he became Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe.
