Mirziyoyev Appoints Rustam Dzhuraev to Head Presidential Security Service

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has appointed Rustam Dzhuraev chairman of the State Security Service of the President and granted him the special rank of lieutenant general, presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov reported.

In a separate decree, Mirziyoyev dismissed Alisher Usmanov as head of the service. Usmanov had led the agency since December 2020, having previously served as deputy chairman of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service.

Before his latest appointment, Dzhuraev served as first deputy interior minister and head of the ministry’s Public Security Department. He began his law enforcement career in 1989.

Dzhuraev headed Uzbekistan’s Emergency Situations Ministry from 2017 to 2018. From 2018 to 2020, he served as deputy interior minister and head of the Tashkent Main Internal Affairs Department. He was appointed commander of the National Guard in March 2020.
